Catching Rays with Greg Robinson

Welcome to "Catching Rays", a monthly feature where we take a moment to shine a light on the individual people who make up the fabric of Arctiq. These conversations will allow us to get to know one another better, and to celebrate our collective stories.

(*Catching Rays is a reference to the "light rays" that make up the Arctiq logo, and also a nod to taking a moment for oneself, to be present and soak up something meaningful.)

Name:  Greg Robinson
Position: Delivery Consultant

Q: In brief, what does your position entail?
A: When I first got into consulting in 2016, the type of work I was doing was very handoff-ish. There was minimal interaction with the customer . I think due to my inexperience with the various technologies and consulting in general, the work I was assigned lacked complexity. Fast forward 6 years, I find myself more often than not being onboarded to my clients as extensions of their team. I am looked at as a resource for guidance on technologies and processes, as well as a technical resource.  We are solving problems together.  Many times it’s our clients that provide great advice and insight, and that’s why I think consulting is a great place to be.

Q: What would you say is your "Arctiq Superpower"?:
A: I am a bit of a “yes man” in the context of taking on new projects with new technologies. I don’t care which cloud platform it is, or which tools are being used. As long as the work is interesting, I will take on the opportunity.

Q: What is the most important career lesson you've learned along the way?
A: If there is an opportunity presented to you, and you know this opportunity will be good for advancing your career, say yes, and figure out how to do it later. This fits well into the context of consulting where, even if you know very little about a technology being used on an engagement, you can take on the risk knowing the reward is much greater.

Q: What is one piece of tech from any point in time that you wish you were a part of?"
A: ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), specifically when the first message was sent between two computers.

Q: Current obsession:
A:
I have recently taken up the sport of Triathlon, with the goal to eventually compete at full Ironman distance. Although, I don’t think there will be very much competing at that distance, it’s more about setting personal goals for myself. I also still need to figure out swimming at such a distance. My other obsession is hard techno music.
